We see the DJ as an artist playing an instrument of personal expression called the turntable and our programs are designed to engage the creative imagination of students from all musical backgrounds. With the majority of learning being hands on, we encourage students to use their mistakes as a way of discovering new things.
Our focus is placed on technical aspects of mixing, scratching, and use of equipment, but we also highlight a DJ culture component to emphasize the music that exists beyond commercial hits. Secrets that take years to learn are revealed in a warm modern studio design featuring small class sizes for ease of communication. This is 21st century music education!
Covering all the basics of mixing/scratching and use of equipment. This is a hands on course designed for the beginner who has little to no experience with DJing. The main focus of the Intro camp is to develop hand skills, basic music theory, and experiment with different ways of playing with sound on the turntables.
We’ll also introduce you to digital DJing with a look at the latest software. We’ll compare the positives and negatives of both approaches and examine how to integrate the skills of each. By the end of the week we’ll have you beat matching, scratching, and blending your first 3 – 4 song set.
